Ancestry + Imagination = Knowledge Work

Sankofa is an Afrofuturist theme on a self-hosted Wordpress. (Here is a Coop Tech recipe!). You can come to our workshops to learn how to create your own green tech stack with privacy-focused hosting and open source tools that are alternatives to Big Tech and resist extractive AI.

“Sankofa” is an Akan (Twi) word from Ghana, symbolizing ancestral wisdom and the infinite spiral between past and future. It comes from the phrase: “se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi”, which means, “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten.” Our designs and content are inspired by the playful hands-on culture of DIY technology and poetic computation, the integration of solarpunk with permaculture, of butterfly waystations and backyard pollinator gardens that serve as homegrown sanctuary corridors for migration, and of the ways we can each participate in ecological consciousness and collective care in our creative commons.
